The Democracy Center

WHO WE ARE

The Democracy Center works globally to advance social justice through investigation and reporting, training citizens in public advocacy, and leading international citizen campaigns.

The Democracy Center Principles

The Democracy Center works to promote democracy and social justice based on the belief that all citizens everywhere in the world have a right to understand and influence the basic public decisions that affect their lives:

We carry out this mission in three concrete ways:

  1. We conduct research and publish written work to help people understand public issues.
  2. We create and disseminate educational materials and facilitate training workshops to promote effective activism.
  3. We support and promote local, national, and international citizen campaigns, including campaigns directed by The Democracy Center.

Our Principles for Working with Bolivian Organizations and Communities:

  1. We aim to understand and communicate the Bolivian reality with integrity to people in Bolivia and abroad.
  2. We strive to work in a collaborative and transparent manner with Bolivian organizations and communities, respecting their needs and goals in addition to our own.
  3. We seek to promote intercultural awareness in the relationships built between Bolivians and those from abroad.

Principles for how we work with one another within the Democracy Center:

  1. We work to promote and respect the use of both Spanish and English, aim to have project teams that include both Bolivians and foreigners, and to produce as much of our written work as possible in both languages.
  2. We strive toward decision-making by consensus; we rotate responsibilities; and we are committed to helping each other grow as instruments of social justice.
  3. We work to create an environment of intercultural understanding and solidarity where all can share freely their opinions and feelings.
