The Wonders of Technology Upgrades
Dear Readers:The Democracy Center is in the middle of moving our entire Web site, and the Blog, over to a new Web server. As a result many of you may have noticed problems over the past few days in accessing our site or posting comments. To the side is a photo of our technical team hard at work on this.
I appreciate the e-mails from those of you who have suggested that we check out if sinister forces have been monkeying with our Web site. Tempted as I was to announce that we have discovered a CIA mole in our midst, alas, we are allowed only one April Fools post a year.
So please bear with us as we make the changes and upgrades. We hope to have everything back to normal in the next couple of days, the computer gods willing.

The Democracy Center, based in Cochabamba Bolivia and San Francisco California, works globally to advance human rights through a combination of investigation and reporting, training citizens in the art of public advocacy, and organizing international citizen campaigns. Jim,
I would have expected your IT staff to wear polleras and use qui'pus instead of punching cards. Good luck and do wash your hands. While the Bolivian gov't thinks you can get swine flu from eating Oscar Mayer hot dogs, we know that washing your hand is a better measure.
So is anyone else not surprised to find out one of the men behind the group brought to Bolivia to build a right wing paramilitary militia is none other than Hugo Acha.

Yes, the same Hugo Acha we all know and love, especially the families of the indians who were murdered in Pando.
It's so cliche that he's in the states, probably hanging out with Iturri down on south beach. Aren't any of these criminals original.

I'm no fan of Evo, but the UCJ and the radicals "leading" Sta Cruz are even more despicable people. Bolivia can't even choose between the lesser of two evils, both Morales and the opposition are huge evils. The latter are clearly looking to preserve their ill-gotten riches and Evo has no plan for Bolivia other than to impose failed policies while tryinng to stir sh*t up against the US for no good reason other than his hate for all things American.
I love Evo. He is the best !

I agree completely. It really seems a choice between Evo and his policies proven to have failed throughout the world, or choose between backing a select group of rich dons who think they own all the natural resources of the country and have a right to decide for everyone. Not to mention the eastern province elite don't seem to mind starting a civil war in which none of them will be in danger but instead normal poor and middle class Bolivians. I can truly say I have never met more nasty people than the Nacion Camba folks and those who lead them.
Although I agree that Evo seems to have taken a page out of Chavez in blaming the empire, he has a good reason to. It is very naive to think that the US hasn't meddled and encouraged this whole mess.
Read the documents uncovered by journalist Jeremy Bigwood through the freedom of information act and tell me the US hasn't given Evo a reason to be so paranoid. The US is, as always, meddling with things they shouldn't, and as always the US taxpayer has no clue.

Jim,
SEMAPA has laid off over 100 people just before Labor Day (http://www.la-razon.com/versiones/20090501_006714/nota_257_804464.htm), yet you remain silent. The people you helped take the place over have proven to be corrupt and inept, and have provided thousands of Cochambamaba households with unsafe drinking water, unreliable service, and depriving God knows how many others the opportunity of having running water at home. Now 100 families in Cochabamba will have lost thier main source of income. You should be ashamed. Your opportunistic desire for fame, ignorance of how past publicly managed companies fared in Bolivia, and conflicts of interest, are now proving to harm others. How about some accountability?
What color is your hair dye?
Jim, use Tunari web services in Cocha, they have good equipment, domain name servers, webservers, etc. the works.
Jim, Use Tunari web services in Cocha thay got good equipment, connectivity
and anything web related and don't use punch cards!
Say what you will about Evo but these are the facts:
1) Time Magazine informs us the world regards him as the 10th most influential person on the planet; far above Obama's ranking.
see http://www.eldeber.com.bo/2009/2009-05-02/vernotanacional.php?id=090501235806
2) With the various bonos, the average Bolivian's life is better than it was before he was voted into power, as evidenced by the citizenry's votes supporting him.
Although a few days, this is a well researched piece about the terrorists.

anon 2:48 AM Great blog, thanks.
I love how the blogger rips Red Uno for misinformation and for not blocking out innocent peoples faces.
The Media (Unitel, Red Uno, Pat, TVB, etc) is so corrupt, bias and unprofessional it's ridiculous. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Are you sure about the Time magazine ranking? It seems that despite being able to have access to the internet, you still very ignorant of the difference b/w having money and being wealthy. Bonos are the best way to ensure poverty in a country. Besides that, Evo only has around 40% of support going into the vote in december, and most likely he'll face some sort of international censure for ordering the execution of foreign nationals.
"most likely he'll face some sort of international censure for ordering the execution of foreign nationals"
LOL, you haven't been paying attention. No government is criticizing Morales now that more evidence regarding these foreign nationals is coming out. International censure? yeah, don't hold your breath.
I guess you don't read Hungarian newspapers...
Hungary? Wasn't it the Hungarian ambassador who said these were just young innocent little angels. All before the photos and evidence of them came out. Zkler Legion goons who had fantasies of being Rambo aren't causing any "international censure".
You see, in the civilized world there is a little thing called due process. I know that in El Alto and Achacachi people have no qualms at burning people alive or freezing them to death just based on rumors. Despite whatever they had done, they did not deserve to be executed. I know that you might have a hard time getting your head around concepts like all men being equal, innocent until proven guilty, no double jeopardy, no retro activity of laws, no laws that target specific individuals, etc. etc. These are some of rules of the civilized world, please keep in mind that only in places like Bolivia mob justice and random executions are ok.
well now that this case of alleged terrorism is uncovered as a show staged for the political persecution of opposers, now that Morales has no more fake witness (Every single one stated the torture and brutality used against them to get phony declarations) and that is crystal clear Morales is guilty of Manslaughter I wonder what are going to do all the persons who supported him so blindly?
